Prop 409 is an investment in health equity

Posted

Health equity is not an abstract concept; it is the fundamental right of every person to be as healthy as possible and to ensure fair access to health care.

In Maricopa County, Valleywise Health is fighting on the front lines for that right every day. It is the safety-net system that provides culturally competent care to our diverse communities, from running the state’s largest HIV clinic to operating the Refugee Women’s Health Clinic.

However, this work is threatened by aging infrastructure that creates barriers to care. Proposition 409 is a direct, powerful investment in health equity. It will rebuild community health centers in underserved areas, making it easier for working families to get primary and pediatric care. It directly confronts the mental health crisis, which disproportionately impacts marginalized communities, by funding a new, modern hospital.

A yes vote on 409 is a vote to dismantle health disparities and strengthen the public institutions that serve us all. It is a crucial step toward building a truly just and healthy community where your ZIP code doesn’t determine your well-being.
