ProMusica chorale, orchestra to present ‘Musical Dreams’

The ProMusica Arizona Chorale and Orchestra kicks off its 2023-24 season, “Musical Dreams,” Saturday, Oct. 21 and Sunday, Oct. 22.

Beginning this season, Saturday concerts as well as Sunday concerts are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.

The Oct. 21 performance is at All Saints Lutheran Church, 15649 N. 7th St., and the Oct. 22 show is at American Lutheran Church, 17200 Del Webb Blvd.

Songs include “Over the Rainbow,” “Dream a Little Dream of Me,” a new arrangement of “When You Wish Upon a Star,” a rendition of Carly Simon’s “Let the River Run” as well as many new pieces. 

The PMAZ Orchestra will be featured playing Mendelssohn’s “Overture to a Midsummer Night’s Dream” and settings of “Dreams” by local composer Christine Temple Evans, with text by William B. Yeats. The program closes with choir and orchestra joining in Mary McDonald’s “This is the Dream” inspired by Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.

Ticket prices are $28.50 for adults, $26 for seniors (65 and older) and military, $12 for students (ages 16-22) and children age 15 and younger enter free with a paid adult.

Since its founding in 2003, ProMusica Arizona features more than 100 multigenerational singers and instrumentalists. The group has performed more than 295 times for more than 141,000 audience members.

ProMusica Arizona is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and is supported by the Arizona Commission on the Arts, which receives support from the state of Arizona and the National Endowment for the Arts. Partial funding provided by the Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture through appropriations from the Phoenix City Council.
