Congressional District 4, which covers the Ahwatukee neighborhood of Phoenix, west Mesa and Chandler, has been redrawn several times to account for the growth in Phoenix, Tempe and Mesa and was previously held by current Republican Congressman Paul Gosar who now represents the western part of the state with an office in Goodyear.

Following a discussion with Steven Goldstien in partnership with the Center for the Future of Arizona, Newkirk at a presser answered questions about gun control, AIPAC, and his choice to run against a sitting democratic member of Congress.

“I don’t care whether or not you think of yourself as progressive, moderate or a Democratic Socialist or a ‘Blue Dog.’ Are we going to be beholden to the same big-money forces that are screwed and overworking people or are we going to break that and build a society that’s about loving our neighbors as ourselves,” he asked rhetorically.
