Probes continue into special ed student abuse claims at Glendale school

Deer Valley Unified School District, U.S. Department of Ed investigating claims at Mountain Ridge High School

Two different investigations continue into allegations of abuse and potential civil rights violations committed against two special education students as well as claims of a hostile work environment among staff who reported the violations at Mountain Ridge High School in Glendale.

Deer Valley Unified School District was served in May with notice of the claims from three district employees, two of whom won’t return to the district next year as Deer Valley Unified investigates the matter. Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Education’s office for civil rights on March 24 confirmed it is also investigating the claims.

The claimants are Alicia Quintero, a special education strategist; Annie Hughes, a special education teacher; and Renee Rios, a school psychologist.
