A 16-year-old boy has been arrested after a drone tracked him for driving recklessly and speeding away from Buckeye police officers, authorities said.
At about 11:30 p.m. Feb. 1 near Verrado Way and Sunrise, Buckeye officers spotted the driver of an electric motorcycle failing to stop at a stop sign. The driver sped away after seeing a police vehicle behind him, according to a release.
Police launched a drone to track the suspect as he cut through a park, drove on a golf course path and traveled the wrong way on Victory Boulevard, the release stated.
“An officer activated lights and sirens to pull him over near Pasadena and 206th Avenue, and the suspect, again, sped away,” officials stated in the release.
The drone continued to track the suspect and, a short time later, spotted him pushing the motorcycle, police said, and officers took him into custody.
The teen was booked into jail for felony flight, reckless driving and a curfew violation. In addition, he was cited for not having a motorcycle endorsement on his driver’s license, no current registration and no insurance, police said.
