Police use drone, sonar, dogs in search for ‘beloved’ Tempe man

Tempe police intensified a search Monday for a missing 91-year-old man who was last seen on Friday.

Apolonio Romero, who police referred to as a “beloved” and long-time Tempe resident, has dementia and type 2 diabetes, according to a release. He was last seen about 7 p.m. Jan. 2 near Weber Drive and Miller Road, police said.

Monday’s search focused on a park near Hayden and McKellips Roads, an area where Romero likes to fish, police said.

Tempe police intensified a search Monday for a missing 91-year-old man who was last seen on Friday.

Apolonio Romero, who police referred to as a “beloved” and long-time Tempe resident, has dementia and type 2 diabetes, according to a release. He was last seen about 7 p.m. Jan. 2 near Weber Drive and Miller Road, police said.

Monday’s search focused on a park near Hayden and McKellips Roads, an area where Romero likes to fish, police said.

The search included an underwater drone with sonar, search dogs and volunteers assisting in the area.

Anyone who sees Romero or has information on his whereabouts is urged to call 911 immediately.
