Federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funds will pay two years of salary and benefits for police school resource officers to be assigned to two Apache Junction schools, costing more than $300,000 this school year.
The Apache Junction Unified School District will use the ESSER funds to pay $157,900.99 each for fiscal year 2022-23 for the SROs assigned to the high school and junior high school.
The city council on July 19 approved resolutions in 6-0 votes on two two-year intergovernmental agreements for the school district to reimburse the city. Councilmember Bambi Johnson was absent.
