Police: 'Misinterpretation' of social post led to alarm about Riggs Elementary

The supposed threat against Riggs Elementary School in Gilbert stemmed from a misinterpretation of what was said on a social-media post, Gilbert Police Chief Michael Soelberg said.

Soelberg said police had received a screenshot of the original post, alleged to have said “it will all be over soon” from a juvenile who has been connected to teen violence cases.

“That's where the threat originated — from the interpretation of what was said,” Soelberg said at his weekly news conference Feb. 15. “We investigated that. We determined there was no active threat at any time by the individual involved or at the school or any other individuals.”
