Detectives are investigating the death of two women found with apparent gunshot wounds in a Phoenix apartment east of downtown, police said.

An employee at the apartment complex, 1333 N. 24th St., called 911 at about 9 a.m. June 26 to request a welfare check on the women who were not seen or heard from for several days, according to a release.

The employee opened the apartment and allowed officers inside where the women’s bodies were found.
