Detectives responded to the area of 700 West Rio Salado Parkway and learned two victims were riding on a scooter along the south side of the lake when “multiple suspects approached them.

"The suspects attempted to rob one of the victims at gunpoint. The victims shot at the suspects, and one suspect shot back,” an earlier Tempe Police Department release stated.

The suspects left the area before police arrived. Police found and contacted the suspects.

One victim and two suspects sustained gunshot wounds. They were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release.
