The man who died Monday night after being shot by a Mesa police officer in a neighborhood near Raleigh Avenue and Emery Circle has been identified as Perry Forster, 59.
Officers responded about 7:10 p.m. Aug. 3 to the 3800 block of South Emery Circle after receiving 911 calls reporting a disturbance involving a man who callers reported was assaulting his ex-wife and children with a shovel outside a home.
They also stated the suspect was walking through the neighborhood damaging vehicles with the shovel and was possibly armed with an ax and a firearm, according to a Mesa Police Department release.
