A 30-year-old man was arrested Friday night after he was seen shooting at an empty car and then “attempting to brandish a handgun” at a Phoenix police officer, authorities said.

The incident occurred about 9:40 p.m. Nov. 10 at 1609 N. 91st Ave. where police responded after being called about a man seen shooting at an empty car, according to a release.

“When the first officer arrived, he saw the suspect, identified as Martin Vega, running from the area,” the release stated.

“As the officer pulled closer, he saw as Vega faced the patrol car and made movement in the direction of the gun in his waist band. The officer continued to drive forward striking Vega at which time he was able to be detained without further incident.”

Phoenix Fire Department took Vega to a hospital where he was later released with minor injuries and booked into jail on counts of drug offenses, weapons and explosives and assault, according to police and the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
