Plencner: Concerning the Office of Tourism resignation

Posted

Shocking to read that Katie Hobbs’ selection of director of the Arizona Office of Tourism had to resign. Those who are appointed to serve in government should never be allowed to use their position to financially benefit any family or friend. A  contract to upgrade the state's logo was awarded to the brother of the Director of the Arizona Office of Tourism.

I can speak directly to this, as my late husband Frank Plencner was tapped by Governor Fife Symington to be his chosen director of the Arizona Office of Tourism. There was no way that Frank would have ever abused his office as Lisa Urias, awarding her brother the contract, has done. The difference, Democrats "reward" their supporters/funders with appointments to key agencies and look the other way as they financially leverage such offices.

My husband was a retired Army colonel, an honorable military officer who is buried in Arlington Cemetery. A man who would never have overstepped his appointment by foisting off a contract from his office to any family member. Keep this in mind, Democrats see government as a political and financial stepping stone, Republicans consider it an honor to serve.

Editor’s note: Lisa Urias has stated claims tied to this incident are “unfounded and false.” Reader reactions, pro or con, are welcomed at AzOpinions@iniusa.org.
