Millennium junior running back Tayejion Player is the first West Valley Preps player of the week vote winner in almost two years.

The appropriately named Player won the player of the week vote for week 4, with 818 of the 2,755 votes cast.

Player rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries in a 55-0 win at Willow Canyon Sept. 15.

Desert Edge senior defensive end and kicker Deshawn Warner came in second with 667  votes for his performance in a classic 38-32 double overtime win against Gilbert Higley. He had a 29-yard interception return for a touchdown, two sacks, two forced fumbles and two extra points.

In third place was Peoria freshman Dontay Tyson Jr. In the Panthers 43-7 rout of Sierra Linda.  He had a 75-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, a punt return for a touchdown and a total of 233 all purpose yards

Tyson Jr. received 464 votes.

For the seventh year, player of the week honorees, including Player, will win more than bragging rights.

Celebrity Tux and Tails, returns as the sponsor of the player of the week poll. The store, at 9240 W. Northern Ave., Suite 103-A in Peoria, will provide each winner a free rental redeemable any time this school year.
