A 50-ton capacity crane was used to fly the dome structure from the site where it was built to the building where the planetarium is located.

The crane begins lifting the dome from the location where it was constructed.

Workers prepare to attach straps on the dome to the crane rigging that will lift it.

The International Dark Sky Discovery Center invited the public to witness the placement of the planetarium dome and several hundred people turned out.

Fountain Hills Mayor Gerry Friedel made comments to those gathered for the event.

Organizers with the International Dark Sky Discovery Center invited the public to witness a major milestone in the construction of the new science center in Fountain Hills.

With construction expected to conclude in 2025, it’s anticipated the facility could be a big draw for astrotourism in the Valley, as well as offer unique education and entertainment opportunities for neighboring communities and beyond.
