Pingerelli votes against disbursement of $43M to Peoria Unified

Could have led to deep cuts, layoffs

A Peoria Unified School District board member who also is an Arizona state legislator voted against a measure at the Capitol that would disburse a previously budgeted $43 million to the district.

Rep. Beverly Pingerelli, R-Peoria, was one of 14 House Republicans who voted against the waiver, Feb. 16.

The Senate on Monday approved the measure with a two-thirds supermajority required to raise the aggregate expenditure limit, which is necessary to allow schools to spend money legislators already budgeted for public education.
