Pinal County Sheriff's Office sergeant shoots, kills sex crimes suspect

A 60-year-old man was shot and killed July 18 in Winkleman during a confrontation with Pinal County Sheriff’s Office deputies, authorities said Saturday.

Deputies were in the town about 10 p.m. Friday attempting to find a suspect wanted in connection with an investigation involving sex crimes against children. The man, who has not been identified, was found at a house in the 200 block of 2nd Street, according to a PCSO release.

“Preliminary evidence indicates the suspect refused commands, produced a handgun, chambered a round and took an offensive position towards deputies, resulting in a deputy-involved shooting,” the release stated.

A 60-year-old man was shot and killed July 18 in Winkleman during a confrontation with Pinal County Sheriff’s Office deputies, authorities said Saturday.

The man died at the scene. Authorities said Saturday they were trying to notify next of kin.

The sergeant who discharged his duty weapon was placed on paid administrative leave, per standard procedures.

An investigation remains active.
