Pinal County, ADOT to work on tier 2 North-South Corridor study

Pinal County is to partner with the Arizona Department of Transportation in an environmental impact statement for the North-South Corridor roadway from U.S. Highway 60 in Apache Junction to Interstate 10 near Eloy.

ADOT recently selected a final 55-mile corridor through Pinal County. A programmatic agreement approved recently by the Pinal County Board of Supervisors is for the tier 1 environmental impact statement with ADOT’s Advisory Council on Historic Preservation and the Arizona state historic preservation officer.

“The north-south study is basically that highway that we’ve been talking about since 2000 probably, from U.S. 60 all the way down just west of Gold Canyon area south to just east of Eloy and it’s basically a (more than) 50-mile section of roadway that ADOT has been studying and we finally got through the record of decision ... and that was just formally announced within the last couple of days,” Andy Smith, Pinal County public works director, said Aug. 25 to the supervisors.
