Pilots caution Goodyear council about unsafe airport traffic

Two pilots addressed the Goodyear City Council Monday over noise and flight safety concerns they have regarding a nearby aviation school.

According to Goodyear resident Bryan McCarty, the year-to-date general aviation operations at Phoenix Goodyear Airport increased 88% from 70,020 to 132,000 operations in 2022. McCarty said he believes that number is expected to surpass 200,000 in 2023.

United Aviate Academy’s 340,000-square-foot facility in Goodyear houses a fleet of late-model Cirrus SR-20 series single-engine aircraft. According to McCarty, the Cirrus aircraft’s noise provides more of a nuisance to residents than traditional Cessna aircraft.
