The driver of a pickup truck who rear-ended an SUV died Sunday night along Loop 101 in Scottsdale, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 6:45 p.m. June 25 on northbound Loop 101 near Mountain View Road, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

After the collision, the vehicles traveled off the right side of the road, and the pickup rolled over into a canal, DPS officials said.

The driver of the truck died at the scene, and officials said impairment has not been ruled out.

The SUV struck and became entangled in a guardrail east of the road.

Both people inside sustained the SUV non-life-threatening injuries. The woman passenger was taken to a hospital for treatment, according to DPS.
