(Brandt) Howard, 84 SUN CITY - Phyllis Jean (Brandt) Howard, 84, died Jan. 29, with her husband of 63 years, James W. Howard, and her two daughters at her side. A native of Evansville, Ind., but long-time resident of Scottsdale and Sun City, she leaves behind a legacy of love -- for the Lord, her family, and her friends. She was tireless in her efforts to serve others, particularly as a Stephen Minister at the First Presbyterian Church in Sun City where she was a member. Hers was a willing shoulder to lean on, a warm hand to guide, a gentle laugh to share. She loved music and played cello, piano, and the organ. She loved to quilt and crochet and to garden. She could coax even a dead plant to blossom. After graduating from F J Reitz High School, she attended the Deaconess School of Nursing and graduated in 1948. She enjoyed a long nursing career in labor and delivery, rehabilitation, and the care of patients with alzheimers. She was married Dec. 27, 1948. She is survived by her husband, Jim, daughters Sheila Holtey of Ashland, Ore., and Sharon Spaulding of Sandy, Utah, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 18, at First Presbyterian Church, 12225 N. 103rd Ave., Sun City 85351. Reception follows. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stephen Ministers at the same address, or to Sunshine Service, 9980 Santa Fe Dr., Sun City, AZ 85351.
