Other speakers during the city’s ceremony were:

  • Mayor David Ortega
  • Scottsdale Police Chief Jeff Walther
  • Scottsdale Fire Chief Tom Shannon
  • Scottsdale Fire Department Chaplain Mark Yule

Attendees also viewed a pop-up memorial exhibit put on by the city. The exhibit includes handmade items honoring the thousands of lives lost, such as the memorial cards created and donated by Scottsdale resident Lisa Vella and printed and laminated by New York City resident David Jurist.

The display also featured memorial wreaths from city of Scottsdale departments, as well as other service organizations and groups. The intent of the wreaths is to honor the memory of the event as well as recognize the importance that the day is also known as a Day of Service.
