Honeywell fine-tuning autonomous military helicopter in Valley

Phoenix-based Honeywell Aerospace is fine-tuning an autonomous military helicopter for the U.S. Department of Defense and has plans to perform another local flight test in July.

Honeywell completed its first local test flight on the helicopter — called the Leonardo AW139 — in May, said Sapan Shah, senior director of product at Honeywell.

One goal of the autonomous military helicopter is to reduce the risk for military members who are on missions overseas, Shah said.
