Gateway School in Phoenix got approval last week to turn some of its school buildings into commercial businesses.
The Phoenix Planning Commission unanimously approved both a general plan amendment and a rezoning for the property to allow for the commercial uses, while the public and quasi-public uses of the school and attached baseball field continue.
“This is kind of an unusual case where they are putting a general plan amendment on property that’s owned by a school,” Chair Marcia Busching said during the Dec. 4 meeting.
