A contentious crowd of north Phoenix residents left angrily after the North Gateway Village Planning Committee voted 7-0 Thursday night to approve a rezoning request and an amended planned street map for development south of the Loop 303 near the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.
The meeting, held at the Goelet A. Beuf Community Center in north Phoenix, saw most of the dozens of residents from the Stetson Valley and Inspiration at Stetson Valley communities voice their opinions to city of Phoenix staff and volunteer committee members during an almost two-hour public comment session.
Prior to the meeting, the city received more than 160 letters in opposition to the rezoning request, while about 60 letters had been sent supporting the project.
