Phoenix venue Rhythm Room to take summer hiatus

Blues joint has struggled with heat fatigued audiences the past couple summers, but May’s lineup is packed and September will feature the year’s biggest party

A famous old quote from the world of blues music — usually attributed to the legendary Willie Dixon — says “the hottest part of the flame burns blue.”

Phoenix just might have changed Willie’s tune on that one.

The city’s summer heat burns just hot enough that Phoenix’s iconic live blues music joint, The Rhythm Room, will take a hiatus this summer for the first time in its 35-year history, not counting its temporary closure during the COVID pandemic in 2021.
