Phoenix to foot bills for neighbors affected by street name changes

After Phoenix changed the names of two of its streets many consider offensive, the residents and business owners on those streets must update their addresses, but Phoenix is footing the bill for any costs involved.

The city is also making librarians available to help any residents through the various processes over the phone if needed.

The two street names officially will be changed on March 1, 2021, after Phoenix City Council approved the change two weeks ago. Residents on the streets will go through the same hassle involved with changing addresses after a move. Phoenix estimates reimbursing residents’ costs could cost up to $28,000.
