Phoenix to demolish old park ranger station

Vegetation to be planted, may become overlook for hikers

The city of Phoenix soon will demolish an unused park ranger station. The demolition, which will cost at least $150,000, is planned for “early August.”

The station, atop a hill in North Mountain Park southwest of Cave Creek and Thunderbird roads, has sat vacant since the city’s park rangers stopped using it in 2012.

Phoenix Parks Supervisor Claire Miller said after people learned the station was unused it became common for people to break in, which has caused the Parks Department to board it up, making the building look dilapidated.
