Phoenix strives to keep energy affordable for residents amid transition to clean energy

The city of Phoenix is seeking to ensure energy is affordable for residents as well as clean and reliable.

The city’s Climate Action Plan has aims to make city operations carbon neutral by 2030 and make the city completely carbon neutral by 2025. City Energy Manager Carlos Aguiar called it an “aggressive goal” to reach 100% energy offset in five years, considering the city currently offsets about 20% of its energy usage and will reach 22% in 2026.

City staff is now working on ways to ensure a rapid rethinking of power production doesn’t leave residents with drastically different energy bills.
