Phoenix's St. Joseph’s Hospital highlights sustainability plans

Members of the Phoenix Environmental Quality and Sustainability Commission last week were glad to here the parent of St. Joseph’s Hospital Center in Phoenix has set a goal to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040 and cut operating emissions in half by 2030.

As the city of Phoenix pursues a climate action plan it set in 2021, it is checking with large companies and nonprofits to see what their environmental sustainability plans are. Ambitious plans like St. Joseph’s will help Phoenix complete its goal to reach net-zero carbon emissions in the city by 2050.

St. Joseph’s is a part of CommonSpirit Health, one of the largest nonprofit health care systems in the U.S. CommonSpirit formed in 2019 when Dignity Health and Catholic Health Initiatives merged.
