Phoenix Sky Harbor led the nation in canceled flights Wednesday

Improvements early Thursday, but FAA plans to cut some flights Friday

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport led the nation in canceled flights on Wednesday, according to the flight tracking website FlightAware.

Delays and cancellations had improved Thursday morning, but the FAA plans to cut some flights on Friday. According to reporting from The Associated Press, the Federal Aviation Administration is forcing airlines to cut 10% of their flights at 40 of the busiest airports across the nation, including Phoenix, to reduce pressure on air traffic controllers during the ongoing government shutdown and ensure that flying remains safe.

Phoenix Sky Harbor and other U.S. airports were feeling the crunch before the cuts began, however.
