Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport sees hundreds of delays, cancellations due to storm

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is experiencing hundreds of delayed flights and leads the globe in canceled flights on Friday, according to the flight tracking site FlightAware, due to severe thunderstorms in the Valley.

“Today’s storm is impacting some operations at PHX,” reads a statement shared on the airport’s social media accounts Friday. “Remember to check your flight status with your airline before coming to the airport and give yourself extra time. Also, the PHX Sky Train is not currently running and buses are available at each station to move passengers.”

The airport also stated around 3:30 p.m. that ground stop, issued by the Federal Aviation Administration, was in effect for all arriving flights. The FAA's website said the ground stop is in effect until 5:30 p.m. Arizona time.
