As Valley students and their families jetted off for fall break trips, the Phoenix area’s second-largest airline suffered a system-wide breakdown.
Southwest Airlines was forced to cancel or delay hundreds of flights over the weekend and into Monday due to what company officials said were air traffic control issues and inclement weather in parts of its network, putting a significant damper on a peak travel season.
The airline has canceled more than 360 flights and delayed another 1,410 across its system as of Monday afternoon, according to the online tracker FlightAware. Those canceled flights make up 10% of its schedule, compared with 30% of its schedule impacted on Sunday.
