Phoenix seeing more heat emergencies

Higher unsheltered population leaves more vulnerable to heat

Phoenix is seeing more heat-related emergencies this year. Local efforts to combat the heat have increased but have so far not kept pace with the increased number of unsheltered people on the streets who are vulnerable to the heat.

The Phoenix Fire Department has responded to 1,281 heat-related calls for service so far this year, a 10.7% increase from 1,157 at this time last year.
