Phoenix safety plan targets areas near I-17

The city of Phoenix is putting special resources toward preventing crime, reducing homelessness and reducing blight in certain areas along Interstate 17.

According to crime heat maps from the Phoenix Police Department, some of the highest numbers of both violent and property crimes in the city — outside of downtown Phoenix — occur along I-17. Generally, those crimes are clustered from around Indian School Road to Dunlap Avenue.

Last year the city of Phoenix outlined key focus areas on either side of the freeway to establish a Community Safety Plan for which it would have added resources dedicated from multiple city departments.
