Phoenix renews effort to relocate protected birds, burrowing owls from construction sites

The city of Phoenix is paying $250,000 to renew an effort to relocate protected species of birds and their nests, including burrowing owls.

Phoenix City Council voted 8-0 on Wednesday to approve the five-year contract with Wild at Heart, Inc. and Liberty Wildlife LLC.

The contract is a renewal of a similar five-year contract with just Wild at Heart that council entered into in 2021 and was set to expire in December. That contract was for $500,000.
