Phoenix reexamines response to domestic violence calls

Number of calls down from 2019

The city of Phoenix is considering changing how it approaches domestic violence cases, including following up with past victims and sending out a crisis response team even if a call about domestic violence was canceled.

One city council member also advocated for harsher penalties on first offenses to keep people from reoffending.

Domestic violence statistics from Phoenix 2023 showed improvement 2019, the last time the city’s Domestic Violence Fatality Response Team convened. Several years of the normally annual survey were taken off during and following the COVID-19 pandemic.
