Phoenix prioritizes victim follow-up in updated domestic violence policies

City also emphasizing training on strangulation

City of Phoenix staff is reviewing updates they made to how the city handles domestic violence incidents based on the recommendations of the Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team.

In presentation made to the Phoenix Public Safety and Justice Subcommittee during its Feb. 4 meeting, staff detailed what changes were made based on five recommendations from the review team in its 2024 annual report.

Human Services Director Jacqueline Edwards detailed to the subcommittee that the city defines domestic violence as a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate partner.
