Phoenix prepares to turn former Fry’s Electronics into police station

Fire station to be added to property later

Phoenix is preparing to begin construction to turn the former Aztec-themed Fry’s Electronics store near Interstate 17 and Thunderbird Road into a new police precinct.

The city purchased the property in 2024, three years after the store had closed. On July 1, city council unanimously approved up to $2.1 million to Arrington Watkins Architects, LLC to provide architectural services that include support services, design and possible construction administration and inspection on the project.

The new Cactus Park Police Precinct will take up 8.5 acres of the 12.5-acre property southeast of 31st Avenue and Thunderbird Road. The remaining four acres will be used for a new fire station in a future phase.
