Phoenix postpones planned reductions to Central bus route beyond the summer heat

With new light rail line along the same route, buses will be less frequent

Phoenix is delaying plans to reduce frequency to a bus route along Central Avenue, at least until after the summer.

Staff had recommended Route 0, the majority of which has buses arrive every 15 or 20 minutes, change to a 30-minute frequency throughout on July 28 in light of the new South Central Extension/Downtown Hub light rail line opening with 12-minute frequency along the southern part of the same route on June 7.

However, the Phoenix Transportation, Planning and Infrastructure Subcommittee opposed that plan both because of public opposition — 65% of 92 comments the city received were opposed to the reduction in frequency — and because it would be implementing the change in the middle of summer.
