Phoenix Police's downtown unit adds e-bikes

Those heading downtown this weekend to see a Women’s Final Four or Diamondbacks game will likely see some Phoenix Police officers riding the departments’ new e-bikes.

The 10 e-bikes, used by the Downtown Operations Unit, were first deployed last month for the Waste Management Open golf tournament. Assistant Police Chief Brian Lee noted they also arrived just in time for the Women’s Final Four events this weekend, which include events at the Phoenix Convention Center, Heritage Square and a Saturday night concert at Margaret T. Hance Park.

“The e-bike patrol unit will increase officer visibility, enhance community engagement and help deter crime through increased accessibility and positive interactions,” Lee told the Public Safety and Justice Subcommittee on Wednesday.
