Police shoot, kill man suspected of taking guns from Phoenix pawn shop

Woman suspect arrested

An officer-involved shooting Saturday afternoon left a man dead and a woman under arrest after police said the pair took guns from a Phoenix pawn shop.

Police received a robbery call about 4:05 p.m. Jan. 27 with information that a man and a woman took guns from the store and left.

Officers arrived at the area near 21st Avenue and Indian School Road and contacted a man and a woman believed to be involved.

“While contacting them, officers began to give verbal commands. An officer on scene discharged his 40 mm less-lethal launcher at the man who was refusing to obey commands,” police stated in a release.

The man ran west on Indian School Road and attempted to enter a truck stopped on Indian School Road facing east, police said.

“Officers re-contacted the man who then pointed a handgun at them leading to the officer-involved shooting,” the release stated.

The man was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries.

The woman was taken into custody. She had no injuries, police said.

Detectives have taken over the investigation.
