A man died Saturday night as he was walking in a marked crosswalk in west Phoenix, police said.
Phoenix police responded Sept. 9 to the intersection of 59th Avenue and Camelback Road to take over a fatal collision from Glendale authorities.
Glendale police discovered the collision’s origin was in Phoenix, and detectives with Phoenix Vehicular Crimes Unit responded to take over.
A witness told authorties that man was driving a vehicle headed north on 59th Avenue and failed to stop for a red light at Camelback Road.
While driving through the intersection, the man hit the victim who was in the crosswalk on the south side of Camelback Road. The victim died at the scene.
As the suspect continued to drive, police said, he struck a westbound car occupied by two women before crashing into a bus stop just north of Camelback Road on 59th Avenue.
The driver was seen running from the scene while a woman passenger stayed in the truck. She suffered from serious non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital for follow up care, police said.
