A 49-year-old man is dead after a two-vehicle collision at 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road, and police are searching for a suspect who left the scene of the crash.
The crash occurred just after 1 a.m. Oct. 8. Police said they found a black SUV that was unoccupied and a gray SUV with four adults inside.
All four were taken to a hospital, where Flavio Ortiz, 49, died. The three others are expected to survive, police said.
Detectives arrived and later learned the gray SUV was making a left-hand turn from 43rd Avenue to head west on McDowell Road when it collided with the black SUV that was heading southbound on 43rd Avenue.
The suspect in the case remains outstanding, police said. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Phoenix Police or Silent Witness if they wish to remain anonymous.
