Phoenix police: Pay raise has helped recruiting, retention

A pay raise to Phoenix police officers this summer has helped the department recruit officers away from other departments, including some in the Valley.

Assistant Police Chief Bryan Chapman said it has helped retention, avoided officers “leaving in droves” as they were before, and overall helped the short-staffed department.

Making testing more accessible and adding recruiting staff also has helped Phoenix police begin to correct staffing issues.
