Phoenix Police are investigating the death of a woman just after midnight on Wednesday.

Emma Damian, 30, was found in a vehicle in the 1900 block of West Baseline Road about 12:22 a.m. after police were called to the area regarding a collision of a car with a cement irrigation container.

Damian, who was found with critical injuries, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said in a news release.

During the investigation, police discovered that a second car had been following Damian north on 19th Avenue and witnesses said occupants of that vehicle were shooting at Damian's car, according to the release. Damian's car was then seen accelerating before driving off the road and striking the irrigation container.

Police said Damian's death is being investigated by the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office.
