Phoenix Police, council plan reforms in wake of DOJ report

The Phoenix Police Department and city council laid out a list of planned policy changes to the police department.

The plans announced in last week’s council meeting come three months after a Department of Justice investigation accused the department of several types of misconduct.

Councilors stressed the changes presented were not the only ones being made in response to the DOJ findings, just the first steps. They also stressed the DOJ report was not the start of efforts to improve department policies, but that the police department is continuously evaluating and updating its policies and procedures.
