Community outreach and policy reform were among the top priorities discussed by the three finalists for Phoenix’s top cop position at Monday’s public forum.
Finalists for the Phoenix chief of police were given a set amount of time to answer questions on their background, qualifications and policing philosophy by a city of Phoenix moderator. Some questions were submitted by residents from an online survey.
Finalist Mirtha V. Ramos didn’t bat an eye as she mentioned seeing the U.S. Department of Justice report and its then-investigation into allegations the police department “engaged in a pattern or practice of conduct that violat(ed) the U.S. Constitution and” federal law, according to the U.S. Department of Justice website.
