Phoenix plans to remove traffic lane, add street parking on stretch of Central Avenue

The city of Phoenix is planning to remove a lane of traffic on a stretch of Central Avenue downtown and replace it with street parking.

The change would add 17 metered parking spaces on Central Avenue between Washington and Monroe streets.

The area has experienced less traffic because Central Avenue no longer connects between Washington and Jefferson streets due to the light rail station on the new South Central Extension/Downtown Hub line that opened last year.
