Phoenix plans for child care facility at Sky Harbor, but losing company is taking city to court

Two child care companies that lost out on contract claim the process was unfair

Phoenix is moving forward with plans for an child care facility for workers Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, though the procurement process is being challenged in court by a company not awarded the contract.

The hearing for a special action filed in Maricopa County Superior Court is scheduled for Monday, July 7. Superior Court Judge John Hannah put a delay on the city executing its contract with its selected child care company, KinderCare Learning Solutions, until then. The hearing had been scheduled for June 20 but was pushed back earlier this week.

“I believe that the city’s process was appropriate here and that the city should be vindicated by the judge,” said Shanks Leonhardt, a third-party attorney hired by the city told councilors during their June 4 meeting.
